Background of the Study:
International security policies, including arms control agreements and military alliances, significantly influence regional stability and arms race dynamics. In Kano State, regional security concerns have been heightened by the implementation of international policies aimed at curbing the proliferation of advanced weaponry. These policies, while intended to promote peace, often lead to unintended consequences such as competitive arms buildup among neighboring states (Johnson, 2023). This study examines the impact of such security policies on regional arms races by focusing on Kano State as a case study. It explores the mechanisms through which international security directives are translated into domestic military strategies and regional responses. The research integrates quantitative data on arms acquisitions with qualitative analyses of policy documents and expert interviews to assess whether international efforts to control arms proliferation inadvertently trigger competitive escalation (Adekunle, 2024). It further evaluates the role of diplomatic negotiations, confidence-building measures, and international monitoring regimes in mitigating these tensions. The study provides a critical understanding of how global security policies interact with regional political dynamics, shaping military strategies and influencing overall regional stability (Martinez, 2024).
Statement of the problem:
Despite international efforts to control arms proliferation, Kano State experiences a heightened arms race driven by regional insecurity and competitive military investments. Conflicting national interests, limited enforcement mechanisms, and geopolitical rivalries contribute to the escalation of arms competition, undermining the intended effects of international security policies (Chukwu, 2023). This study aims to investigate these challenges and assess the extent to which global security policies influence regional arms dynamics.
Objectives of the Study:
To evaluate the influence of international security policies on arms races in Kano State.
To identify factors that contribute to competitive arms buildup.
To propose measures to mitigate arms race dynamics and enhance regional stability.
Research questions:
How do international security policies affect regional arms races in Kano State?
What factors contribute to the escalation of arms competition?
How can policy measures be improved to reduce regional arms buildup?
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant as it examines the unintended consequences of international security policies on regional arms dynamics. The insights gained will inform policymakers and international organizations in refining security strategies to promote stability and reduce arms competition (Thompson, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
Limited to the topic only.
Definitions of terms
